Regional Sensitization and Capacity Building Workshop on Kisan Sarathi Organized at KVK Jammu

A Regional Sensitization and Capacity Building Workshop on “Kisan Sarathi: Content Creation, Dissemination and Advisory Services” for the KVKs of Jammu Region of Jammu & Kashmir was organized on 26 February 2026 at KVK Jammu. The workshop aimed to strengthen the capacity of stakeholders for the effective utilization of the Kisan Sarathi platform in delivering timely and scientifically validated advisories to farmers. Dr. Amrish Vaid, Director of Extension Education, SKUAST-Jammu, was the Chairperson of the workshop.
Dr. Punit Chaudhary, Head, KVK Jammu, welcomed the dignitaries and participants and emphasized the importance of effectively leveraging the Expert App for advisory and call services to farmers. He encouraged participants to clarify their doubts and actively engage with the technical team.
Dr. Amrish Vaid stated that Kisan Sarathi marks a transition from traditional agricultural extension to digital extension services. He said that while farmers earlier visited KVKs for solutions and reassurance, the Kisan Sarathi app now enables delivery of advisories through digital platforms, including to remote areas. Highlighting Jammu’s diverse agro-climatic conditions, from sub-tropical to temperate, including rainfed and kandi regions-he stressed the need for location-specific technologies. He clarified that Kisan Sarathi is not a replacement but a supplement to the existing extension system and urged SMS and experts to ensure accurate and timely advisories reach farmers.
During the technical sessions, Dr. Ashish Santosh Murai, Senior Scientist and Nodal Officer (Kisan Sarathi 2.0), ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana, along with Mrs. Kuldeep Kaur, YP-II, ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana, elaborated on the new features of the Kisan Sarathi Expert App. They explained the advisory workflow mechanisms, roles and responsibilities of experts, and the integrated video calling and conferencing features. The interactive discussions enabled participants to gain clarity on the operational aspects of the platform.
A dedicated session on Kisan Sarathi Kosh highlighted content standards and approval mechanisms and demonstrated the process of content creation and dissemination. Emphasis was laid on ensuring the quality, relevance, and scientific validation of advisories. Participants were also provided hands-on training in developing location-specific and variety-wise advisories using KS Kosh, during which they actively drafted and refined advisories under expert guidance.
The workshop concluded with focused discussions on strengthening digital advisory outreach and effective roll-out strategies. The programme significantly enhanced the capacity of KVK stakeholders for improved farmer services through Kisan Sarathi 2.0.
